A much-loved member of the El Venado family, Julian Brazzola (Polo Coach) has worked at the ranch for over 15 years. As well as coaching players at El Venado, Julian is a 3-goal professional who plays internationally – and he’s also a very talented trainer. While he’s usually a man of few words, Julian eventually gave in and agreed to an interview!
How did you get started in polo?
I started in polo when I went to work for Fede. I met him in Logi Polo House in Buenos Aires, I was looking for a job and next thing I was working for him.
What do you remember about your first week at El Venado?
It was an interesting week. I was working one of the horses and fell off, I landed badly and broke my knee. I didn’t want to make problems so I didn’t say anything, I just kept working. I didn’t actually know I broke it until I went into BA a while later. It was very painful.
Where else have you worked?
I lived and worked in a yard in England for a few years, and also the States. At the moment I work at El Venado and also play in Cañuelas, two hours from here.
What’s your favourite thing about your job?
Being with the horses all day long. I always loved horses since I had my first pony. It bucked me off all the time but I loved the horses anyway.
What do you love about El Venado?
I love El Venado because Federico lets me keep my horses for free, which means it’s easy for me to work on them. At the moment I have 14 horses ranging from my competition mares to new foals. It’s a lot of work but I love it. I also love El Venado because it’s like my second home – Fede and Ines are like family and I get to meet interesting people who come and stay.
